That was it, with a flash of light Zordon was gone. The reason Jason was who he was, the man that started the Power Rangers, he was gone. All that stood in his place was a swirling portal of light, the key to saving the world. Jason barely had enough time to comprehend what was happening before it was done. "Will This work?" Jason asked of Alpha as he stood un-moving before the portal.
"It has to" Alpha responded. The loss of Zordon had hit Alpha hard, normally the levity in a situation Alpha too was broken by the recent events. As the blue light reflected off of Jason's armor, he stared down at the helmet in his hands with tears in his eyes. He had returned to the Command Centre to seek Zordon's advice but he was left feeling worse than ever. With nobody but Alpha by his side he was expected to lead a group of strangers against an enemy who was stronger than ever before. "He had faith in you Jason" Alpha broke the silence once more trying to bolster his friend's confidence. "He wouldn't have done this otherwise" He finished. Jason wasn't sure if he could handle what was about to come his way but he knew it was his duty to try. Feigning confidence he placed his helmet back on his head and regained his composure. With the helmet on he was free to let the tears stream down his face and not risk looking weak in front of Alpha when they both needed strength.
He took a deep breath and turned back towards his friend before asking "What do we do now?"
Alpha responded with pure honesty. "I don't know, there isn't much we can do but wait"
"Come get me if anything happens." Jason said, the strength returning to his voice. He placed a hand on Alpha's shoulder to say goodbye as he walked away from the portal. He was going to use the time before Rangers started to arrive to explore the Command Centre.
It had been a long time since Jason had been in this building but nothing had changed, save for the lack of light everything was as he remembered it which was both reassuring and discomforting. While it gave him a sense of home it was also a stark reminder of how much everything had changed. With the other Rangers and Zordon all gone things would never be the same...
